Flexible Spending Plans (FSA's or medical FSA's) are a growing option for employers and employees to set aside a portion of their earnings to help defray future health care costs. They are usually part of a total health care plan offered by your employer and the employer actually owns the money.

Health Savings Accounts (HSA's) are available to people enrolled in High Deductible Health Plans (HDHP). In these plans, money is also set aside, but is owned by the individual.

In 2011, significant changes will come into effect regarding these types of plans - and, for example, over-the-counter medications will no longer by covered.

The new changes will definitely impact individuals with FSA's or HSA's - and you need to know exactly which benefits will be available to you.
